Student Commons

Building for the Future

As part of the current strategic plan that will guide the work of St. Joseph’s Academy for the next three to five years, we have committed to maintaining current facilities and constructing new facilities as needed for the adequate formation of SJA young women. In this light, we will begin construction on the Student Commons before the end of the calendar year. We anticipate completion in the fall of 2022.

The Student Commons will be located across from the Dining Hall, with the two buildings connected by a landscaped student quad. A quad will provide outdoor dining and meeting spaces.

The Dining Hall will continue to house the SAGE Dining Services kitchen and serving lines, salad bar and pick-up-and-go food items. Seating for approximately 150 will also be provided.

A Hub of Campus Activity

The 5,000 square foot Student Commons will provide comfortable table seating for 300 students, easily accommodating the entire student body for indoor dining over the course of three lunch periods. Additionally, the building offers space for up to 400 students in auditorium-style seating for lectures and presentations with full AV capabilities. With wraparound arcades and floor-to-ceiling arched windows, the space will be filled with natural light, providing enticing spaces for individual and group study, gathering spots, club meetings and evening events. In short, the Student Commons will become a hub of campus activity.

The Student Commons will be built in the tradition of SJA’s time-honored architecture. The finish palette of white cream brick and stucco are accented with traditional features of decorative base, cornice, trim and pediment bands with medallions. A tonal, neutral color palette with accents of the trademark SJA red complements the more traditional, trussed roof design.

The roof and ceiling structure assist in designating areas with wood on the pitched roof and acoustical ceiling tile at the flat roofs accompanied by LED recessed and linear lighting. A wall-mounted cross and SJA shield with graphic wallcoverings will visually depict the SJA experience.

NAMING OPPORTUNITIES

There will be a number of naming opportunities for our alumnae, parents and friends to show their support of this beautiful new addition to SJA’s campus. Details will be shared soon, but if you’d like to discuss naming opportunities in this early phase, please contact Mission Advancement Director Meg Gerald at geraldm@sjabr.org or (225) 388-2254.
