Elise Brown broke the Highland Road Park three-mile course record and set a new school record at the LHSAA Division 1 – Region 2 Cross Country Championship. She finished first in 17:18.17 to become SJA’s seventh consecutive individual regional champion.
Also at the Division 1 – Region 2 meet, Michelle Daigle finished second in the school’s second fastest three-mile time ever, 17:22.08. She also broke the previous Highland Road Park three-mile course record.
The team recorded its fastest team time in school history at the state meet.
Grace Rennhoff set the three-mile school record for the state meet in a time of 17:59.1.
Coach Mark LaHaye was named a 2024 National Coach of the Year finalist by the National High School Athletic Coaches Association for the sport of cross country.
Elise Brown will join the cross country team at Tulane University.
Michelle Daigle was named Star of Stars for cross country.

Coach Mark LaHaye was named the 2019 Cross Country Coach of the Year in Louisiana by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Coach LaHaye was also named the 2019-2020 South Section Girls Cross Country Coach of the Year. The South Section includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Junior Isabelle Brown set a new three-mile school record running 17:31.56 at the East Baton Rouge Metro Championship. This was also a new Metro Meet course record and the fastest time of the 2018 season among all runners across the state. Isabelle was also the individual 5A state champion, the 2-5A regional champion and the metro champion (for the second year in a row).
The Redstickers placed all five scorers in the top 10 to post a school-record 23 points in the state cross country meet. All seven of SJA's runnders finished in the top 20.
Three team members will compete at the collegiate level next year. Angelle Martin will join the cross country and track teams at Millsaps College, Taylor Winters will be part of the cross country and track teams at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and Lauren Hendry will run cross country and track at Louisiana State University.

Freshman Annie Hill finished 4th overall in the state meet. She was named the 2013 NOLA.com/Times-Picayune Baton Rouge Runner of the Year. She also holds the new SJA three-mile record, 18:12. She was named the Advocate’s Star of Stars for cross country.
