The St. Joseph’s Academy Art Department hosted its annual end-of-the-year art show on May 7 in the Academy Arts Center. The event showcased the works and talent of students in Art I and II Painting and Drawing, Art III and IV Ceramics and Stained Glass and AP 2D, AP 3D and AP Drawing. 

Senior Hannah Schiro said she especially enjoyed showing her art to family and friends. “It made me feel proud to see my work in a professional space, and I liked seeing people interpret and appreciate the work we did this year,” she said. 

Junior Paris Hall said she had a great time looking at the entire department’s work on display. “I especially enjoyed seeing the variety of media my classmates used and the creativity expressed in their artwork,” she said. 

Sophomore Blaire Settoon said her favorite part of the evening was showing and explaining to her mom what she and her friends created throughout the year. “I overheard people talking about my collage from one of my final works,” she said. “They said they liked how three-dimensional it was. I liked having my art in a professional space. I think it gave the course a good sense of closure, and I loved celebrating our accomplishments in this style.”

Sophomore Gwen McDermott said she enjoyed contemplating the artistic styles of each student. “It was nice to be able to see all of the hard work that everyone put in this year,” she said. “It was nice to see so many people there to support and enjoy students’ art.”

Sophomore Alex Payne said the student art show was a great experience. “It was exciting to see my artwork displayed after all the hard work I put into it,” she said. “One of my favorite parts was showing my mom my pieces and explaining my ideas and the process behind them. I also enjoyed looking at the other art classes’ work because it was interesting to see everyone’s different styles and ideas.”
