Bowling Team Enjoys Awards, Competition

The St. Joseph’s Academy bowling team gathered at All-Star Lanes on May 16 to celebrate the 2022 season and enjoy the return of the annual student-teacher bowling competition, which had been sidelined for several years because of COVID and bad weather.

Coach Shelly O’Dowd awarded certificates of participation and varsity letters and announced special awards as follows:

Jordan Wingerter was recognized for being named to the All-District First Team as well as the district MVP. She also qualified for the state singles tournament.

Team Award: Ava Welborn
Coach’s Award: Alexis Baham
MVP: Jordan Wingerter

Recognized as members of the LHSAA All-Academic Bowling Team were Catherine Booksh, Lucy Richardson and Ava Welborn.

Following the awards ceremony, team members competed against Dean of Women Erika Angarita and faculty/staff members Trey Gaudin, John Richardson, Jonathan Durocher, Alexis Ringswald and Brad Buras.

“It has been a great season, and I’m proud of the team’s growth and sportsmanship,” O’Dowd said. “The team was so excited to participate in the student-teacher bowling competition. They were able to enjoy an afternoon with their teachers, and the teachers were able to see the bowlers in action. I have enjoyed coaching this group of girls, and we will miss the seniors.”
