Cross Country Team Finishes 9th in Southern Showcase

The St. Joseph’s Academy cross country team placed ninth in The Southern Showcase, held September 17 at the John Hunt Cross Country Running Park in Huntsville, Alabama. 

The Southern Showcase featured more than 2,400 runners from 10 states competing across four divisions. SJA entered the meet seeded 31st out of 37 complete teams in its division. There were 267 runners in the 5,000-meter championship division. 

Hannah Vaughan was SJA’s top finisher in 33rd place in a time of 19:06.00 (personal record). She was followed by Elise Brown, 37th place, 19:10.90 (personal record); Michelle Daigle, 43rd place, 19:18.60 (personal record); Grace Rennhoff, 117th place, 20:24.57; Madison Mannino, 150th place, 20:48.13 (personal record); and Kaitlyn Francise, 158th place, 20:52.71 (personal record).

“We hit our goal of finishing in the top 10,” said head coach Mark LaHaye. “This meet was a huge step up the ladder for this team. There are greater things for us to accomplish this season.”

Next up for the Redstickers is hosting the SJA Invitational on October 1. The meet will be held at Highland Road Park, with the varsity race at 8 a.m. followed by the JV at 9 a.m.
