Cross Country Wins 10th Consecutive Regional

With its seven runners finishing in the top 12 spots and freshman Hannah Schneider finishing first overall, the St. Joseph’s Academy cross country team won its 10th consecutive LHSAA Division 1-Region 2 Cross Country Championship. The Redstickers scored 28 points to dominate the 14-team field on November 6 at Highland Road Park. 

Baton Rouge High finished second with 78 points. Rounding out the top five in the three-mile race were Dutchtown (107), Denham Springs (110) and Zachary (139).

Schneider topped the field with a time of 17:55.8. She is SJA’s ninth consecutive individual regional champion. She was followed by Cate Barbier, fifth place, 18:36.9 (personal record); Hope Lemoine, sixth place, 18:38.6; Audrey Manda, seventh place, 18:47.2; Olivia Crews, ninth place, 19:00.7; Kaitlyn Garidel, 11th place, 19:20.4; and Tiana Khuri, 12th place, 19:34.8.

The Redstickers will attempt to win their 10th consecutive Class 5A state title on November 17 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. The three-mile race begins at 9 a.m.
