Mary Bird Perkins Honors SJA

St. Joseph’s Academy was honored as part of the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center’s “Our Community Celebration” on August 17. The event paid tribute to local leaders and organizations that have gone above and beyond to support the cancer center and its patients.

SJA, represented by Principal Stacia Andricain, Athletic Director Erin Hart and recently retired volleyball coach Sivi Miller, was among the supporters that moved up on the cancer center’s Our Community Wall, which recognizes those who have made a significant impact through their philanthropic support.

Individuals are added to the wall at $50,000, while corporations/foundations are added at $100,000 for their lifetime of giving. As a donor’s giving continues, a tile bearing their name moves up the wall into segmented giving areas.

Through its annual Geaux Pink volleyball match, begun at SJA by Coach Miller, the Academy donates proceeds from bake sales, raffles, t-shirt sales and the gate. Since the first Geaux Pink match, the Academy has donated more than $110,000 to Mary Bird Perkins.

“It was a privilege to place the tile on the wall in honor of so many SJA students, faculty, administrators and friends who worked hard over the years for such a great cause,” Coach Miller said.

Lexie Taylor Magee, event coordinator at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, commended SJA’s ongoing support of local cancer care. “I continue to be inspired by SJA and the incredible support shown through Geaux Pink,” she said. “Your generosity directly impacts the lives of cancer patients here in the Baton Rouge community, and we are deeply grateful for your commitment to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center.”
