National Merit Semifinalists, Commended Announced

Six St. Joseph’s Academy seniors have been recognized as semifinalists in the 68th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Another six seniors have been named commended students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. 

Semifinalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program are Corinne Ellis, Maria Hargrave, Camille Kleinpeter, Madeline Krzystowczyk, Meredith Martin and Ava Kathryn Nesbit. These academically talented students have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,250 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million to be offered next spring. Approximately 95 percent of semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. 

SJA’s commended students for 2023 are Susana Cuadra, Alexandra Hulse, Anna Bella Simoneaux, Shelby Soileau, Vivian Toups and Katherine Winchester.

Ellis is the daughter of Nancy and John Ellis; she attended St. Aloysius. Hargrave is the daughter of Lisa and Jason Hargrave; she attended St. Jude. Kleinpeter is the daughter of Nicole Kleinpeter and Shawn Kleinpeter; she attended St. George. Krzystowczyk is the daughter of Niomi and Doug Krzystowczyk; she attended Our Lady of Mercy. Martin is the daughter of Nicole and Teddy Martin; she attended St. Jude. Nesbit is the daughter of Alison and Ryan Nesbit; she attended St. Jude. 

Cuadra is the daughter of AnaMaria and Gilberto Cuadra; she attended St. Jude. Hulse is the daughter of Andrea and Frank Hulse; she attended Our Lady of Mercy. Simoneaux is the daughter of Christie and Jeff Simoneaux; she attended St. Theresa. Soileau is the daughter of Janell and Kurt Soileau; she attended Our Lady of Mercy. Toups is the daughter of Corey and Shaun Toups; she attended Our Lady of Mercy. Winchester is the daughter of Elizabeth and Danny Winchester; she attended St. Aloysius.
