The St. Joseph’s Academy cross country team kicked off the 2024 season on September 7 with a win in the 24th annual St. Michael High School Bayou Boogie Classic at Highland Road Park.
The varsity team, winners of the last eight LHSAA state championships, placed six runners in the top nine to score 23 points and easily outdistance the 13-team field. Rounding out the top five were Mt. Carmel (67 points), Archbishop Hannah (135 points), Central Lafourche (133 points) and Christ Episcopal (159 points).
The runners were led by team captain and senior Michelle Daigle, who finished first in 17:56.78. She was followed by Sara Pasquier, fifth place, 19:52.29; Charlotte Beck, sixth place, 19:53.60; Emmaline Ritter, seventh place, 19:54.75; Hope Lemoine, eighth place, 20:11.28; Melia Hooper, ninth place, 20:34.78; Kaitlyn Garidel, 12th place, 20:47.09; Anna Amedee, 19th place, 21:20.43; Sophia Otzenberger, 20th place, 21:20.58; Olivia Crews, 26th place, 21:42.58; and Tiana Khuri, 31st place, 22:00.29.
In the three-mile junior varsity race, SJA finished first with a perfect 15 points followed by Mt. Carmel (53 points), St. Michael the Archangel (108 points), Archbishop Chapelle (126 points) and St. Scholastica (132 points).
Runners and their times were Ainsley Brignac, first place, 20:58.27; Cate Barbier, second place, 21:57.01; Noella Fields, third place, 22:19.25; Kaiser Stentiford, fourth place, 22:33.18; Audree Comeaux, fifth place, 22:41.00; Eleanor Blake, sixth place, 22:44.07; Camille Vaughan, eighth place, 23:15.69; Camille Sims, 10th place, 23:28.18; and Abbey Haefner, 25th place, 25:55.76.
Next up for the Redstickers is the Episcopal Round Table Run on September 14 at Highland Road Park. The varsity race starts at 8:45 a.m. followed by the JV race at 9 a.m.
