With its five scoring runners finishing in the top 12 spots, the defending state champion St. Joseph’s Academy cross country team continued its winning ways on October 9, bringing home top honors from the 47th annual Catholic High Cross Country Invitational. The three-mile race was held at Highland Road Park.
Led by sophomore Grace Rennhoff’s first-place finish in a personal record time of 18:30.47, the Redstickers scored 31 points to finish ahead of Dominican (54 points), E.D. White (142), Isidore Newman (162) and Episcopal (165). There were 20 teams and 152 finishers in the field.
Senior Maddie Kate Gardiner finished fifth in 18:55.00 followed by junior Emma Claire Hendry, sixth place, 19:08.83; sophomore Hannah Vaughan, seventh place, 19:08.93; senior Amelia Cochran, 14th place, 19:44.87; senior Alexis Napoli, 17th place, 19:58.59; and senior Elise Jones, 24th place, 20:25.10.
With five runners in the top six spots, the JV team scored 16 points to dominate the field. Freshman Michelle Daigle finished first in 19:23.73 followed by sophomore Julia Monzon, second, 20:59.58; freshman Kenzie Stentiford, third, 21:16.32 (personal record); freshman Melia Hooper, fourth, 21:20:15; sophomore Elise Brown, sixth, 21:27.1; and freshman Ainsley Brignac, ninth, 21:44.99 (personal record).
Next up for the Redstickers are two meets on October 16: the SNL Cross Country Invitational at Acadiana Park in Lafayette and the Lake Hamilton Invitational in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
