Runners Win Eighth Consecutive Regional

With its seven runners finishing in the top 13 spots and several record-shattering performances, the St. Joseph’s Academy cross country team won its eighth consecutive LHSAA Division 1 - Region 2 Cross Country Championship. The Redstickers scored 24 points to dominate the 15-team field on a cold November 2 morning at Highland Road Park. 

Baton Rouge High finished a distant second with 91 points. Rounding out the top five in the three-mile race were Zachary (112), Dutchtown (155) and Southside High School (158).

Elise Brown broke the Highland Road Park three-mile course record and set a new school record, finishing first in 17:18.17 (personal record). She is SJA’s seventh consecutive individual regional champion. She was followed by second-place finisher Michelle Daigle, who posted the school’s second fastest three-mile time ever (17:22.08; personal record) and also broke the previous Highland Road Park three-mile course record. Grace Rennhoff finished fourth in 18:00.87 followed by Hannah Vaughan, seventh place, 18:11.66; Kaitlyn Francise, 10th place, 18:56.88; Charlotte Beck, 11th place, 19:05.47; and Julia Monzon, 13th place, 19:33.90. 

SJA’s first five finishers recorded the fastest team time in school history at Highland Road Park: 1:29:49.68, for a 17:57.9 average. 

The JV team also finished first, with runners placing in spots 1-16. The first five runners posted a team time of 1:36.23.0 for a 19:16.6 average. Order of finish and times were: Sara Pasquier, first place, 18:56.3 (personal record and the fifth fastest team time of the day); Tiana Khuri, second place, 19:07.6 (personal record); Ainsley Brignac, third place, 19:16.8 (personal record); Melia Hooper, fourth place, 19:29.9; Grace Martin, fifth place, 19:32.4 (personal record); Madison Mannino, sixth place, 19:48.7; Hope Lemoine, seventh place, 19:57.4 (personal record); Emmaline Ritter, eighth place, 20:01.6 (personal record); Stella Vincent, ninth place, 20:03.3; Kathryn Casey, 10th place, 20:06.9; Sophia Otzenberger, 11th place, 20:09.8; Camille Vaughan, 12th place, 20:52.1; Kaiser Stentiford, 13th place, 21:02.3; Noella Fields, 14th place, 21:07.0 (personal record); Audree Comeaux, 15th place, 21:42.6 (personal record); and Cate Barbier, 16th place, 21:52.3 (personal record). 

The Redstickers will attempt to win their eighth consecutive Class 5A state title on November 13 at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. The three-mile race begins at 1:30 p.m.
