Runners Win SJA Cross Country Invitational

The St. Joseph’s Academy cross country team won the 43rd annual St. Joseph’s Academy Cross Country Invitational on September 27 at Highland Road Park. The team was led by freshman Hannah Schneider, who finished sixth in a personal-record time of 18:03.6, the fastest three-mile time run by a freshman in SJA history. 

In the largest meet in the state, the Redstickers scored 73 points to finish atop the 31-team field. Rounding out the top five were Ruston (109), Parkview Baptist (142), E.D. White (182) and Episcopal (183). 

Charlotte Beck finished in 14th place in 18:34.0 (personal record) followed by Hope Lemoine, 15th place, 18:39.6 (personal record); Audrey Manda, 18th place, 19:02.6 (personal record); Kaitlyn Garidel, 20th place, 19:03.9 (personal record); Olivia Crews, 21st place, 19:05.6; and Cate Barbier, 22nd place, 19:08.5 (personal record).

The JV team finished in the top seven places to score a perfect 15 points in the three-mile race. Rounding out the top five were E.D. White (63), Dominican (78), Academy of the Sacred Heart (162) and Vandebilt Catholic (165).

Grace Martin finished first in the JV race in a time of 19:23.5 (personal record) followed by Tiana Khuri, second place, 19:42.0; Anna Amedee, third place, 20:05.7 (season best); Camille Vaughan, fourth place, 20:23.1; Noelle Fields, fifth place, 20:31.7; Camille Sims, sixth place, 20:32.7 (personal record); and Ava Picou, seventh place, 20:53.2 (personal record).

Next up for the Redstickers is the CHS Invitational at Highland Road Park on October 11. The varsity race begins at 8:30 a.m. followed by the JV race at 9:30 a.m.
