Seniors Spend Day in Service to Dear Neighbor

The St. Joseph’s Academy class of 2025 spent October 15 in service to others as part of Senior Service Day. The seniors provided volunteer service hours to 14 local agencies and organizations.

Benefitting from the service of SJA seniors were the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, Catholic Charities, GaitWay Therapeutic Horsemanship, Junior League of Baton Rouge Diaper Bank, Front Yard Bikes-Youth City Lab, The Claiborne Baton Rouge, The Claiborne at Shoe Creek, St. Agnes Soup Kitchen and Shelter, Full of Grace Café, St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room, ARC Baton Rouge, The Lodge at Lane, Pearl at Jamestown and Mighty Moms.

Noelle Shipley, SJA’s assistant campus minister and service coordinator, said she was excited to see the seniors’ enjoyment as they spent time in service throughout the Baton Rouge area. “I hope that they can see the goodness in serving the community and feel more inclined to serve after their time at St. Joseph’s comes to an end,” she said.

Campus Minister Chelsea Colomb said many of the seniors chose to serve at agencies they had not previously been involved with. “I hope they each experienced a deeper sense of joy in serving the dear neighbor and recognized the significant impact they can have in even a small amount of time,” she said. “I hope this time propels them to live a deeper life of service to those most in need.”

Senior Nola Savoie spent the day at the Junior League Diaper Bank. “It helped me work as a team with some people that I did not know as well, and it helped me use some leadership skills to help everything move along smoothly,” she said. “This experience gave me connections to people in my grade that I can maintain the rest of my life. I can always look back on this and have it as memory that I can share with the people I worked with.”
