SJA Celebrates Senior Mass 2025

The St. Joseph’s Academy school community came together on May 2 to celebrate Senior Mass for the class of 2025. Father Mathew Dunn, pastor of Christ the King Parish and SJA’s school chaplain, was the celebrant. The Eucharistic celebration was held in the Academy Student Center.

Senior Anna Camille deBlieux welcomed the large gathering, which included parents, family members and guests of the senior class, as well as the student body, faculty and staff. Senior Tess Fullerton lit the candle of remembrance to honor those members of the Academy community who have passed away.

Senior Virginia Lauve read from the book of Ecclesiastes. Seniors Audrey Elliott and Lily May offered the prayers of the faithful.

In his homily, Father Mathew said that the theme of the senior mass – The World Awaits – was especially appropriate. He implored the soon-to-be graduates to take their place in the world and live their lives guided by the values of Sanctity, Joy and Action instilled in them during their time at SJA. “Jesus tells us that he wants his joy to be in us and our joy to be complete,” he said. “Only a God who loves us would tell us such a thing. … Go take your place and be not afraid, but courageous. It’s up to you to say, ‘Yes, Lord. I will receive that joy.’”

At the conclusion of mass, Senior Class President Hailey Sumich said she and her classmates have made memories that will last a lifetime. She said that while they may go their separate ways, they will always be there for each other.

“I believe God placed all of us in this room for a reason because His plan is greater than ours,” she said. “I don’t know what He holds for my future, but I have faith in Him because He has gotten me this far and led me to all of you. … No matter how big your dreams are, chase them. What you can do is unlimited, and always remember that all of us, your Sticker Sisters, have your back.”

She thanked her teachers, volleyball teammates, coaches, family, Student Council members and moderators and her classmates for their love and support. She announced that the senior class gift is a monetary contribution towards a new stage in the Academy Student Center.

Principal Stacia Andricain said it has been an honor to watch the seniors grow, learn and transform into remarkable young women. “As you step into the next chapter of your lives, remember the lessons you have learned here,” she said. “Continue to follow Christ in all things, treat others with kindness and respect and continue to serve the dear neighbor. You will always be in our prayers, and we ask that you keep us in yours. May you allow God to shine on you and within you, and may He be your true guide and companion that allows you to be a woman for others.”

The choir led the singing of the Alma Mater.

Danielle Laird directed the choir. Serving as cantors were seniors Grace Guidry and Caroline Roussel. Seniors Addison Macha and Emily Vennen sang the senior tribute song, Vienna by Billy Joel. Lending their musical gifts to the celebration were Angela Sneed, piano; Stephen Barrios, drums; and Hugo Andricain, guitar.

Each senior carried a red rose from the SJA Alumnae Association. The roses symbolize their union with 11,574 Academy graduates who are proud to call SJA their alma mater.

Following mass, the SJA Mothers’ Club hosted a reception for seniors and their parents in the Fife Student Commons. Ashley Pere was the chairwoman of the host committee.
