SJA Earns Gold Recognition on AP School Honor Roll
St. Joseph’s Academy has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program School Honor Roll, earning Gold recognition for the 2023-2024 school year.
The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximizing college readiness.
St. Joseph’s Academy had 69 percent of seniors in the class of 2024 who took at least one AP exam during high school, 62 percent of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam in high school and 30 percent of seniors who took five or more AP exams in high school, with at least one exam taken in 9th or 10th grade.
Trevor Packer, head of College Board’s AP program, said taking AP courses demonstrates to college admissions officers that students have sought the most challenging curriculum available to them. “AP gives students the opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” he said. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance. They represent the best of AP.”
Through AP courses, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments and see many sides of an issue, skills that prepare them for college and beyond. Research indicates that students who score a 3 or higher on an AP exam typically experience greater academic success in college and are more likely to earn a college degree than non-AP students.
