SJA Holds Sophomore Retreat

St. Joseph’s Academy sophomores spent March 2 in their class retreat, held on campus. The day-long gathering was coordinated by Campus Minister Chelsea Colomb and Assistant Campus Minister Rachael Duchmann and facilitated by senior Student Ministers.

The theme of retreat was Reconciled to Christ.

“I hope the girls were encouraged in their faith journey to be reconciled with the Lord, that no matter how far they have drifted, they can run directly back to him as he is always waiting for them,” Colomb said. “It is through our daily yes to prayer and surrounding ourselves with positive friends and community that we can be strengthened in this journey of faith.”

Duchmann said she hoped the sophomores walked away from the retreat, regardless of their faith tradition, with the understanding that reconciliation happens with the Lord through both the sacrament and through beginning an honest conversation with the Lord. “I hope that they understand, no matter what messy thing they are going through in their lives, that he wants to hear all about it, the messy, the broken, but also the good and the exciting,” she said.

Father Josh Zelden, SJA’s chaplain, celebrated mass. He led adoration and heard confessions. Assisting with confessions were Father Matthew Graham, Father Brent Maher and Father John Darville.

Faculty and staff members serving as chaperones were Melissa Brocato, Allie Carlock, Alyse Carriere, John Dalton, Allie Dasso, Cord McKeithen, Amelia Morgan, Lauren Sommer, Jade Spears, Timothy Waller, Dawn Weldon and Jackie Zeller.

Lunch was provided by the SJA Dads’ Club.
