SJA Holds Tenebrae Service

The St. Joseph’s Academy Liturgy Committee hosted a prayer service based on the traditional Tenebrae (Liturgy of Shadows) on April 1. The solemn, poignant service originated from the Black Box Theater and was presented on SJA’s Facebook page.

The service involved a series of readings, prayers and hymns to chronicle Jesus’ final week. After each reading, a candle was extinguished, bringing the service to a darkened, silent conclusion.

Readers were sophomore Shobe Manuel, junior Caroline Ruth, junior Avery Claire Bateman, sophomore Ann Malloy Kimble, sophomore Avery Bruce and senior Mallory Matthews.

Lending their musical gifts to the service were sophomore Susana Cuadra, violin; sophomore Ali Guerin, violin; senior Annabelle Chenevert, cello; sophomore Isabelle Gruner, piano and vocals; and Hugo Andricain, vocals.

Junior Olivia Mack served as lighting technician. The lighting was designed by faculty member Lily McGill.

The livestream was produced by faculty members Meghan McGinty and Sara Rounds. Production assistants were members of the SJABR TV student organization: seniors Avery Boudreaux and Caroline Davis and juniors Abigail Martin and Carly McConnell.
