SJA, Teacher Honored for Excellence in STEM
For the third year in a row, St. Joseph’s Academy has been named a STEM School of Excellence by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA). ITEEA recognizes superior K-12 and post-secondary STEM programs in schools around the world. SJA is one of only 30 K-12 schools from across the country to receive ITEEA STEM School of Excellence recognition for the 2024-2025 school year.
Awardees demonstrate outstanding commitment to providing a robust, integrative experience through STEM programs and serve as leaders for exemplifying outstanding leadership in STEM education.
Additionally, Meagan Moore, the director of the Andrea Clesi McMakin ’74 STEM Lab at SJA, was recognized as an International Teacher of Excellence for 2024-2025. She was honored among an outstanding group of professionals for making a significant difference in the lives of their students and the development of their technological literacy.
“It is an honor that reaffirms my belief in the power of curiosity, creativity and connection in the classroom,” Moore said. “It celebrates not just my work, but the brilliance and potential of my students and my coworkers who encourage intense and engaging projects.”
Awardees were formally recognized at ITEEA’s 87th annual conference in St. Louis, held April 2-5. Moore was joined at the conference by Co-Director of Technology John Richardson and faculty member Cody Arceneaux.
ITEEA’s recognition of STEM excellence underscores the importance of STEM education in today’s rapidly evolving world and highlights the critical role that schools play in nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. By recognizing and celebrating these exemplary institutions, ITEEA aims to promote the adoption of effective STEM education practices across the globe.
Mark Harrell, director of ITEEA’s STEM Center for Teaching and Learning, said, “We at ITEEA are incredibly proud of and grateful to all schools for their dedication to fostering STEM literacy for all students. (Their) hard work and commitment to excellence are truly inspiring.”
