Three St. Joseph’s Academy student-athletes signed scholarship papers on April 12 and will compete at the collegiate level next year. The signing ceremony was held in the school library.

Angelle Martin will compete on the cross country and track teams at Millsaps College. Camille Fremaux will play tennis for Millsaps College, and Madison Cefalu will play tennis at Louisiana Tech University.

Martin was an All-Metro cross country team honorable mention and named to the 2018 All-Academic Class 5A Team for cross country. She was joined at the signing ceremony by her parents, Missy and Mike Riddle. “I am most looking forward to continuing my running career with amazing teammates in a new environment,” Martin said. “Going into D3, I can still be a student and an athlete, which is what I’ve always enjoyed.”

Martin said she had mixed emotions signing ceremony. “It was very exciting to sign the papers in front of everyone but a little scary because I’m going out of my comfort zone to improve myself,” she said. “It meant the world to me to have the support of my family, teammates and friends because I am leaving my SJA family for something new.”

Fremaux was named to the All-Metro tennis team as a freshman, sophomore and junior. She was joined at the signing ceremony by her parents, Fran and Andre Fremaux and her coaches, Jason Noonan and Chase LeBlanc. “I am looking forward to playing tennis at the next level, getting to know my new teammates and traveling to different states to play,” she said. “I’m also excited to work hard improve my game over the next four years.”

Fremaux said the signing ceremony was the realization of a lifelong dream. “I loved seeing all of my classmates and friends cheering me on as I signed to play college tennis, which has been a goal of mine since I was young,” she said. “I couldn’t have accomplished all of this without the help and support of my family, coaches and friends.”

Cefalu is a three-time All-Metro tennis team member and was part of the 2018 state champion doubles team. She was joined at the signing ceremony by her parents, Wendy and Kevin Cefalu, and her coach, Jason Noonan. “I am looking forward to being on a new team and traveling across many states, working hard and competing on a higher level,” Cefalu said. “I am also looking forward to working with my new coach and improving my skills.”

Cefalu said she enjoyed signing her scholarship papers surrounded by so many onlookers. “It felt so amazing to see and hear all my friends and teammates cheering us on because I couldn’t have done this without their support,” she said.

WAFB and WBRZ covered the signing ceremony. The student-athletes were also supported by a large gathering of administrators, teammates, coaches, friends and faculty/staff members.
