Student Council Executive Board Chosen

The St. Joseph’s Academy student body elected the members of its 2019-2020 Student Council executive board.

After a run-off, junior Angelle McCormick was named president of the student body. Junior Jordan Mathis will serve as vice president. Sophomore Sarah Harris has been elected secretary/treasurer, and freshman Vivian Dille will serve as communications coordinator.

McCormick said she sought the office of president because she is passionate about SJA and Student Council. “I wanted to be a part of serving SJA through leadership,” she said. “I have always admired the girls who were student body president since I was a freshman and dreamed of being a role model like they were because they helped me find my passions at SJA. I want to be able to give that love to other girls in the school by serving them through leadership.”

McCormick said she is grateful to be elected to the position of student body president and is looking forward to the new school year. “I am so excited to help with planning events, communicating to the school and, most of all, making the school year a blast,” she said.

Mathis said she ran for vice president because of the role Student Council has played in her life. “It has been a blessing for the past three years,” she said. “It has helped shape me in many ways and has provided me with such an amazing sense of love, hard work and community and has furthered my passion for leadership. I have always dreamed of holding an executive position, especially for my senior year.”

Mathis said she was especially excited to work in partnership with her best friend, Angelle McCormick. “She and I have a strong bond and have very similar ideas and values that we are so excited to implement next year,” she said. “I am so joyful and hope to make stronger friendships, learn more about myself and others and implement positive ideas and outcomes through this position.”

Harris said she is most looking forward to working with a team of strong leaders to help guide the student body. “I can’t wait to lead Student Council to be the best it has ever been,” she said. “I am very excited to get to know the other girls on exec and work together to plan new events for all of SJA. As an executive officer, I look forward to having a larger glimpse into what is coming up.”

Harris said she hopes all members of next year’s Student Council enjoy the same experiences she has for the past two years. “I possess a great appreciation for the amazing friends I’ve met, and I want every girl to find the same kind of genuine and supportive friends,” she said. “Spending time every meeting connecting with and getting to know girls in other grades and other committees will increase the rapport and comradery among representatives.”

Dille said she decided to run for office to serve her school, keep the student body informed about SJA events and share her school spirit. “Since I am a freshman, this was my first year seeing the dynamics of how SJA’s Student Council works together,” she said. “Throughout the year, I especially noticed the girls on executive committee. They were very hardworking and worked so well together. They were amazing role models. I look forward to serving as a role model for the new council members next year.”
