Students Excel in Foreign Languages
St. Joseph’s Academy students excelled in their study of foreign languages this year.
The following Spanish I students earned medals on the 2024 National Spanish Exam: Izie Walker, silver medal; and Ava Banh, Audrey Bencaz, Sadie Bowman, Ella Kate Cole, Lucy Fasullo, Izzy Foster, Colleen Muller, Ellison Pipes, Gracie Trahan and Addison Willmann, bronze medals.
The following Latin students joined more than 100,000 students from across the country and in 26 foreign countries in taking the National Latin Exam. Results are as follows:
Latin I: Rebecca Berlin, gold summa cum laude; Hayden Lathers and Jace Wakefield, magna cum laude; and Grace Courville, Gabrielle Fontenot, Marie Henderson, Liv Lawrence, Lyncoln Scott, Claire Wicker and Kristen Wilhelm, cum laude.
Latin II: Grace Buras, Edith Crow and Ella Santa Ana, gold summa cum laude; Elizabeth Bertucci, Janie Elliott, Sydney Gomez, Bree Parms and Zoe Woodroffe, silver maxima cum laude; Rowan Christensen, magna cum laude; and Sarah Lindsay, Avery Watson and Madison Word, cum laude.
Latin III Honors: Rachel Saunders, gold summa cum laude; Kate Arbour, Celeste Cashen, Connie Chau and Macy Davis, silver maxima cum laude; London Dupree, Callie LaBauve, Margaret Murthy, Kaiser Stentiford and Kenzie Stentiford, magna cum laude; and Addison Lousteau and Camille Starkovich, cum laude.
Latin IV Honors: Anna Guidroz, silver maxima cum laude; and Helen Davis, magna cum laude.
A number of students were honored by the American Association of Teachers of French. The AATF award recognizes upper-level French students who demonstrated a commitment to French through participation in district, state or regional competitions or community activities and maintained a high grade point average in French. Honored for 2024 were Juliette Buffone, Addie Carmouche, Elizabeth Kessler, Lauren Quebedeaux, Ella Robichaux, Eva Robichaux and Riley St. Amant. Kessler was also recognized as the winner of a Council for the Development of French in Louisiana’s scholarship to study for five weeks at the University of St. Anne in Nova Scotia.
Thirty-three percent of the class of 2024 earned a seal of biliteracy, presented to seniors who have successfully completed a Level IV foreign language course and earned qualifying scores on the English and Reading sections of the ACT. In French, they were Noora Al Horr, Mady Albers, Julia Bauer, Abby Bourgeois, Maggie Cate Brickey, Juliette Buffone, Addie Carmouche, Hannah Crochet, Macie D’Angelo, Catherine Domangue, Greenley Duplantis, Hadley Ewen, Anna Foco, Mary-Kate Frederick, Kate Gonsoulin, Sarah Harvey, Alli Jones, Elizabeth Kessler, Emma Grace Landry, Evan MacMorran, Lilly Manson, Mary Preston March, Catherine McCrary, Ellie Monsour, Julia Monzon, Marie Pecquet, Isabella Peneguy, Grace Pipsair, Lauren Quebedeaux, Caroline Rabb, Kristian Reed, Grace Rennhoff, Ella Robichaux, Eva Robichaux, Alyssa Roe, Alexis Schmidt, Anna Claire Scott, Avery Scott, Maria Sereda, Riley St. Amant, Anya Stogner, Neila Camille Stone, Caroline Uzee, Kailyn Vessel and Mary Liz Word.
