Five St. Joseph’s Academy seniors have been selected as College Board National Recognition Program awardees for 2024. Another two seniors were recognized last year as juniors.
Connie Chau and Hannah Deshotel were recognized with the National First-Generation Recognition Award. Gaby Gallardo and Anna Kate Terrell were recognized with the National Hispanic Recognition Program Award. Kearra Grisby was recognized with the National African American Recognition Award.
Recognized in 2023 as juniors were Bella Bridgewater, National African American Recognition Program Award, and Mariana Cuadra, National Hispanic Recognition Program Award.
The College Board’s National Recognition Program was created to recognize the academic achievement of Hispanic, African American, Indigenous and first-generation students as well as students attending rural schools. Students receiving this recognition are among the top 10 percent of scorers on the PSAT standardized test and meet College Board’s GPA requirement.
Chau is the daughter of Pauline and Lou Chau; she attended St. Jude. Deshotel is the daughter of Aimee and Tim Deshotel; she attended St. Thomas More. Gallardo is the daughter of Claudia Barrientos and Manuel Gallardo; she attended St. George. Terrell is the daughter of Melissa and Matt Terrell; she attended St. George. Grisby is the daughter of Latreace and Kevin Grisby; she attended University Lab School.
Bridgewater is the daughter of Anika Bell and Dominick Bridgewater; she attended Our Lady of Mercy. Cuadra is the daughter of AnaMaria and Gilberto Cuadra. She attended St. Jude.
