Swim Team Opens Season with Big Win

The 11-time defending state champion St. Joseph’s Academy swim team opened the 2022 season with a victory in the first Capital City Swim League invitational meet of the year. The Redstickers scored 539.5 points to easily outdistance the 18-team field. The meet was held at Crawfish Aquatics. 

Rounding out the top five were Baton Rouge High (281.5), Episcopal High (239), St. Amant High (217) and University High (200). 

The top four finishers in each event are as follows:

200 Medley Relay: Lyla Roper, Caroline Beck, Maddox Saurage and Caroline Roberts, 2nd place, 2:00.22; Mary Grace Talbot, Madeline Oubre, Claudia Magee and Kearra Grisby, 4th place, 2:02.19
 
200 Freestyle: Anna Guidroz, 2nd place, 2:01.93; Laura Purgerson, 3rd place, 2:02.11

200 Individual Medley: Caroline Beck, 1st place, 2:19.79; Caroline Roberts, 2nd place, 2:22.57

50 Freestyle: Mary Grace Talbot, 1st place, 26.69; Ainsley Roberts, 3rd place, 27.36; Audrey Rothkamm, 4th place, 27.46

100 Butterfly: Madeline Oubre, 2nd place, 1:06.86; Claudia Magee, 3rd place, 1:07.55

100 Freestyle: Lyla Roper, 1st place, 57.31; Audrey Lemoine, 4th place, 1:00.86

500 Freestyle: Caroline Roberts, 1st place, 5:31.11; Laura Purgerson, 3rd place, 5:32.52; Claire Lofland, 4th place, 6:04.20
 
200 Freestyle Relay: Anna Guidroz, Mary Grace Talbot, Ainsley Roberts and Laura Purgerson, 1st place, 1:45.28; Kearra Grisby, Audrey Rothkamm, Audrey Lemoine and Katie Toncrey, 3rd place, 1:50.89

Next up for the swimmers is the second Capital City Swim League meet of the season on September 17 at Crawfish Aquatics.
