Swim Team Wins 22nd City Championship

The St. Joseph’s Academy swim team dominated the 19-team field to capture its 22nd consecutive Capital City Swim League Championship. Winning seven of 11 events, including a sweep of all three relays, the Redstickers scored 597 points to easily outdistance the field. SHA was followed by University High (233) and St. Amant (217).

The two-day meet was held October 27-28 at Crawfish Aquatics. Results are as follows:

200 Medley Relay: Lyla Roper, Molly Mayo, Audrey Lemoine and Anna Guidroz, 1st place, 1:49.45

100 Breaststroke: Molly Mayo, 2nd place, 1:07.45; Madeline Oubre, 3rd place, 1:07.91; Audrey Lemoine, 4th place, 1:07.97; Mignon Prochaska, 7th place, 1:18.49

400 Freestyle Relay: Lyla Roper, Caroline Roberts, Molly Mayo and Laura Purgerson, 1st place, 3:42.57

Six seniors were named to the All-Metro All-Academic team: Amelia Gilcrease, Anna Guidroz, Laura Purgerson, Audrey Rothkamm, Maddox Saurage and Mary Grace Talbot.  

The LHSAA State Swimming Meet will be held November 17-18 at the SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur. SJA will be vying for its 13th consecutive state title.
