Swim Team Wins League Meet

The St. Joseph’s Academy swim team won the first Capital City Swim League meet of the year. With first-place finishes in all three relay events and in six of the eight individual events, the Redstickers scored 618 points to finish well ahead of runner-up St. Amant (314) and third-place University High (175). The meet was held September 14 at Crawfish Aquatics. 

“SJA swimmers had another great meet in the 2024 season with outstanding racing, 26 lifetime best-event swims and excellent team spirit,” said head coach Jimmy Roberts. “Our seniors and upperclasswomen displayed wonderful leadership, and our freshman swimmers are making significant contributions.” 

Finishing in the top three of each event were the following:

200-yard medley relay: Lyla Roper, Molly Mayo, Audrey Lemoine and Caroline Roberts, 1st place, 1:56.20

200 freestyle: Mary Claire Roberts, 1st place, 2:05.89; Olivia Serrano, 2nd place, 2:08.15

200 individual medley: Molly Mayo, 1st place, 2:14.79; Lyla Roper, 2nd place, 2:18.31; Caroline Roberts, 3rd place, 2:25.15

50 freestyle: Riley Roedel, 1st place, 26.77

100 butterfly: Isabella Vargas, 2nd place, 1:05.75; Sydney Kline, 3rd place, 1:06.14

100 freestyle: Caroline Roberts, 2nd place, 58.56

500 freestyle: Riley Roedel, 1st place, 5:28.70; Audrey Lemoine, 2nd place, 5:28.92; Caroline Babin, 3rd place, 6:03.24

200 freestyle relay: Sydney Kline, Katie Toncrey, Olivia Serrano and Mary Claire Roberts, 1st place 1:47.98

100 backstroke: Molly Mayo, 1st place, 1:00.64; Lyla Roper, 2nd place, 1:01.68

100 breaststroke: Audrey Lemoine, 1st place, 1:12.88; Alex Payne, 3rd place, 1:19.56

400 freestyle relay: Molly Mayo, Lyla Roper, Riley Roedel and Audrey Lemoine, 1st place, 3:52.70

Next up for SJA is a meet in Thidodaux on September 21. The team will face off against Vandebilt Catholic and E.D. White.
