The 13-time defending state champion St. Joseph’s Academy swim team opened the 2024 season with a dominating win in the Capital City Swim League Kick Off meet. With 22 swimmers scoring points, the Redstickers tallied 532.5 points to outdistance the field. The meet was held September 7 at Crawfish Aquatics.
Episcopal finished second with 295 points, while St. Amant scored 210 points to finish third.
“The swim team had many great performances in our first meet of the year with some swimmers improving lifetime best times, others trying new events and girls giving great effort in early season events,” head coach Jimmy Roberts said.
Finishing in the top three of each event were the following:
200-yard medley relay: Lyla Roper, Molly Mayo, Audrey Lemoine and Caroline Roberts, 1st place, 1:54.29.
200 freestyle: Lyla Roper, 1st place, 2:00.83; Audrey Lemoine, 2nd place, 2:03.44
200 individual medley: Riley Roedel, 1st place, 2:18.00; Mary Claire Roberts, 3rd place, 2:22.84
100 butterfly: Riley Roedel, 1st place, 1:00.67
100 freestyle: Lyla Roper, 2nd place, 56.72; Cate Clapinski, 3rd place, 59.33
500 freestyle: Sydney Kline, 3rd place, 5:33.72
200 freestyle relay: Riley Roedel, Lyla Roper, Katie Toncrey and Audrey Lemoine, 1st place, 1:45.81
100 breaststroke: Molly Mayo, 2nd place, 1:10.21
400 freestyle relay: Riley Roedel, Molly Mayo, Mary Claire Roberts and Cate Clapinski, 2nd place, 3:51.48
