Tennis Team Enjoys Awards Party

The St. Joseph’s Academy tennis team celebrated the 2019 season, which culminated with a runner-up finish in the LHSAA Division I state tournament, with a May 13 dinner and awards party at the home of Kristin and Zach Stafford, parents of sophomore Emerson Stafford.

Coaches Cindy Downs and Jason Noonan awarded varsity letters to all 13 members of the team, including four-year letters to seniors Camille Fremaux, Madison Cefalu, Emma Daniel, Lauren Laperouse and Nikki Manuel.

Noonan said this team had a lot of reasons to be proud. “You rose to the challenge against some very tough competition,” he said. “I look forward to how you respond and what type of momentum we as a team can take into the next season.”

Freshman Anne Scott Guglielmo was named Most Valuable Player, and senior and team captain Camille Fremaux received the Coaches’ Award. Fremaux and fellow senior Emma Daniel were honored for being named to the Academic All-State Division I Team.

Named to the 2019 All-Metro Team were singles players Mary Dabadie and Carly Vincent and the doubles teams of Mikala Noonan/Camille Fremaux and Madison Cefalu/Anne Scott Guglielmo. Fremaux/Noonan were also honored for their runner-up finish at the state tournament.

The tennis team won the regional tournament prior to state, with Fremaux/Noonan defeating Guglielmo/Cefalu in the finals. Dabadie was the regional singles runner-up, losing to the eventual state champion.
