Track Team Dominates in 12th Straight District Meet Win

The St. Joseph’s Academy track and field team won its 12th consecutive District 5-5A track and field championship on April 17 at Catholic High School. The team scored 225 points, the highest district meet total in school history. Rounding out the field were Baton Rouge High (148 points), Dutchtown (83), St. Amant (51.5), East Ascension (34.5) and Broadmoor (23).

The top four finishers in each event move on to the Region II-5A championship, set for April 25 at Zachary High School. SJA qualified to compete in all 19 events, a school record. The team also set the school record for first-place finishes in the regional championship with nine.  

Scoring points towards the team’s total were the following.

4x800-meter relay: Isabelle Brown, Virginia Dirks, Maddie Kate Gardiner and Taylor Winters, 1st place, 9:44.60 

4x200-meter relay: Hannah Jones, Claire Holder, McKenna Ramsey and Alexis Barbay, 2nd place, 1:44.14

1,600-meter run: Sophie Martin, 1st place, 5:22.36; Isabelle Brown, 2nd place, 5:26.05

100-meter hurdles: Claire Holder, 2nd place, 15.62 (personal record); Margaret Turner, 6th place, 17.49

100-meter dash: Hannah Jones, 2nd place, 12.38 (personal record); 12.38; Sydney LaFleur, 5th place, 12.89

800-meter run: Taylor Winters, 1st place, 2:19.25 (personal record); Lydia Poche, 2nd place, 2:23.15 (personal record)

4x100-meter relay: Claire Holder, Alexis Barbay, Sydney LaFleur and Hannah Jones, 1st place, 49.08

400-meter dash: Julia Crawford, 4th place, 1:02.84 (personal record); Ava Dunn, 5th place, 1:03.79 (personal record)

300-meter hurdles: McKenna Ramsey, 2nd place, 46.34; Sophie Kronenberger, 3rd place, 46.52

200-meter dash: Hannah Jones, 4th place, 26.66; Alexis Barbay, 5th place, 26.81

3,200-meter run: Sophie Martin, 1st place, 11:32.44; Lauren Hendry, 2nd place, 11:52.10

4x400-meter relay: Alessandra Purnell, Ava Moreau, Olivia Cook and Taylor Winters, 1st place, 4:03.21

Long jump: Claire Holder, 1st place, 16-06.25; Ava Riche, 4th place, 16-01.75

Triple jump: Ava Riche, 2nd place, 35-09.00 (personal record); Lucy Oately, 4th place, 32.05.00

High jump: Reese Favaloro, 1st place, 4-10.00; Catherine Couvillion, 2nd place, 4-08.00

Pole vault: Taylor Walker, 3rd place, 8-06.00; Corinne Carnaggio, 4th place, 7-00.00

Shot put: Kayleigh Mims, 3rd place, 36-11.00

Discus: Kayleigh Mims, 3rd place, 98-06.00; Peyton Smith, 4th place, 97-04.00

Javelin: Rebecca Bordelon, 1st place, 92-10.00; Abigail Bordelon, 2nd place, 92.07.00

The top three performers in each regional event on April 25 will qualify for the LHSAA Class 5A State Championship on May 4 at LSU.
