Track Team Enjoys Awards Party

The indoor and outdoor state champion St. Joseph’s Academy track and field team celebrated the successes of the 2021 season with an awards party on May 13 in the Student Activity Center. 

Head coach Charlie Daigle, along with assistant coaches Mark LaHaye, Lauren Garrett, Tommy Dorion and Paula Walker, handed out certificates of participation and varsity letters, including four-year letters to seniors Olivia Cook, Sophie Martin, Lydia Poché and Alessandra Purnell.

A number of special awards were handed out. They are as follows: 

Most Valuable Performer: Sophie Martin
Most Points Performer (Overall Field Events): Ava Riche
Most Points Performer (Throwing Events): Rebecca Bordelon
Most Points Performer (Pole Vault): Ava Riche
Most Points Performer (Jumping Events): Simone Castelluccio
Most Points Performer (Overall Track Events): Sophie Martin
Most Points Performer (Sprints & Hurdles): Isabella Lalonde
Most Points Performer (Distance Events): Sophie Martin
Most Improved (Throwing Events): Havilland Forbes
Most Improved (Jumping Events): Gabrielle Graff
Most Improved (Pole Vault): Rachel Kerr 
Most Improved (Sprints & Hurdles): Katherine Gonsoulin 
Most Improved (Distance Events): Ellis Maughan
Coaches’ Award: Olivia Cook

Recognized as members of the 100 Point Club were Ava Riche, Simone Castelluccio, Sophie Martin, Isabella Lalonde and Maddie Kate Gardiner. 

Qualifiers for the LHSAA Division I State Indoor Championship were honored. They were Catherine Burkhalter, Simone Castelluccio, Amelia Cochran, Olivia Cook, Lyndsey Darensbourg, Ava Dunn, Reese Favaloro, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Emma Claire Hendry, Elise Jones, Haley Jones, Hannah Jones, Rachel Kerr, Ava Lemoine, Sophie Martin, Lydia Poché, Alessandra Purnell, Ava Riche, Mary Elliot Turner, Taylor Walker and Riley Wilson.

Participants in the 2021 Mobile Challenge of Champions were recognized. They were Rebecca Bordelon, Simone Castelluccio, Amelia Cochran, Olivia Cook, Ava Dunn, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Emma Claire Hendry, Elise Jones, Haley Jones, Hannah Jones, Sophie Martin, Lydia Poché, Alessandra Purnell, Ava Riche, Taylor Walker and Riley Wilson.

Region II-5A Championship Meet qualifiers were honored. They were Rebecca Bateman, Rebecca Bordelon, Catherine Burkhalter, Simone Castelluccio, Amelia Cochran, Olivia Cook, Lyndsey Darensbourg, Audrey Doming, Ava Dunn, Reese Favaloro, Havilland Forbes, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Katherine Gonsoulin, Elizabeth Gordon, Emma Claire Hendry, Havyn Henley, Elise Jones, Haley Jones, Hannah Jones, Isabella Lalonde, Sophie Martin, Lydia Poché, Alessandra Purnell, Ava Riche, Mary Elliot Turner, Adrianne Van Duzee, Taylor Walker and Riley Wilson. 

Recognized for qualifying for the LHSAA Class 5A State Outdoor Championship were Rebecca Bordelon, Simone Castelluccio, Amelia Cochran, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Emma Claire Hendry, Elise Jones, Haley Jones, Isabella Lalonde, Sophie Martin, Lydia Poché, Alessandra Purnell, Ava Riche and Riley Wilson.

Recognized for their selection to the LHSAA Composite Academic All-State Track & Field Team were Olivia Cook, Anna Camille Eagleton and Lydia Poché.

Honored for being named to the LHSAA Class 5A Academic All-State Track and Field Team were Corinne Carnaggio, Anna Delafield, Brynn Duggan, Ella Gardiner, Macy Howard, Sophie Martin, Alessandra Purnell and Taylor Walker.

Also honored were members of the 2021 Team Council: Ella Gardiner (throwers), Reese Favaloro (jumpers), Taylor Walker (pole vault), Olivia Cook (sprints/hurdles), Lydia Poché (distance events) and Maddie Kate Gardiner (head coach choice).
