Track Team Hosts Awards Party

The state-champion St. Joseph’s Academy track and field team celebrated the successes of the 2019 season with a dinner and awards party on May 16 at the home of Aimee and Robby Walker, parents of sophomore Taylor Walker.

Head coach Charlie Daigle, along with assistant coaches Mark LaHaye, Lauren Garrett, Tommy Dorion and Maggie Poche, handed out certificates of participation and varsity letters, including four-year letters to seniors Alexis Barbay, Catherine Couvillion, Lauren Hendry, Kayleigh Mims and Peyton Smith. 

A number of special awards were handed out. They are as follows: 

Most Valuable Performer: Taylor Winters
Most Points Performer (Overall Field Events): Kayleigh Mims
Most Points Performer (Throwing Events): Kayleigh Mims
Most Points Performer (Pole Vault): Taylor Walker
Most Points Performer (Jumping Events): Reese Favaloro
Most Points Performer (Overall Track Events): Taylor Winters
Most Points Performer (Sprints & Hurdles): Hannah Jones
Most Points Performer (Distance Events): Taylor Winters
Most Improved (Throwing Events): Peyton Smith
Most Improved (Jumping Events): Lucy Oatley and Ava Riche
Most Improved (Pole Vault): Georgia Ieyoub 
Most Improved (Sprints & Hurdles): McKenna Ramsey
Most Improved (Distance Events): Lydia Poche and Sophie Martin
Coaches’ Award: Lauryn Hendry

Recognized as members of the 100 Point Club were Lauren Hendry, Claire Holder, Hannah Jones, Sophie Martin, McKenna Ramsey and Taylor Winters.

Recognized for qualifying for the LHSAA Division I State Indoor Championship were Isabelle Brown, Olivia Cook, Catherine Couvillion, Virginia Dirks, Reese Favaloro, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Lauren Hendry, Claire Holder, Sophie Martin, Kayleigh Mims, Ava Grace Moreau, Lydia Poche, Alessandra Purnell, McKenna Ramsey, Taylor Walker and Taylor Winters.

Participants in the 2019 Mobile Challenge of Champions were recognized. They were Isabelle Brown, Virginia Dirks, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Lauren Hendry, Sophie Martin and Lydia Poche.

Region II-5A Championship Meet qualifiers were honored. They were Alexis Barbay, Abigail Bordelon, Rebecca Bordelon, Isabelle Brown, Corrine Carnaggio, Olivia Cook, Catherine Couvillion, Julia Crawford, Virginia Dirks, Ava Dunn, Reese Favaloro, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Lauren Hendry, Claire Holder, Hannah Jones, Sophie Kronenberger, Sydney LaFleur, Sophie Martin, Kayleigh Mims, Ava Grace Moreau, Lucey Oately, Lydia Poche, Alessandra Purnell, McKeena Ramsey, Ava Riche, Peyton Smith, Taylor Walker and Taylor Winters. 

Honored for qualifying for this year’s LHSAA Class 5A State Outdoor Championship were Alexis Barbay, Isabelle Brown, Olivia Cook, Catherine Couvillion, Julia Crawford, Virginia Dirks, Ava Dunn, Maddie Kate Gardiner, Lauren Hendry, Claire Holder, Hannah Jones, Sophie Kronenberger, Sydney LaFleur, Sophie Martin, Kayleigh Mims, Ava Moreau, Lydia Poche, Alessandra Purnell, McKenna Ramsey and Taylor Winters.

Recognized for their selection to the LHSAA Class 5A Academic All-State Track and Field Team were Alexis Barbay, Catherine Couvillion, Olivia Devall, Lauren Hendry, Emily Kukura, Leanne Livingston, Kylie Angelle Martin, Katherine McCullen, Kayleigh Mims, Peyton Smith, Madeline 
Toler, Margaret Turner and Taylor Winters.

Also honored were members of the 2019 Team Council: Peyton Smith, Catherine Couvillion, Taylor Walker, McKenna Ramsey, Taylor Winters and Olivia Cook.
