Track Team Wins 2019 Grizzly Invitational

The St. Joseph’s Academy track and field team ended the regular season with a dominating performance at the 2019 Grizzly Invitational. The meet was held April 11 at Catholic High School. 

The Redstickers, who finished the season undefeated, scored 216 points to finish ahead of Baton Rouge High (138), St. Michael’s (85), Episcopal (66), Parkview Baptist (51), Broadmoor (16) and Southern Lab (1).

Scoring points towards the team total were the following. 

4x800-meter relay: Taylor Winters, Virginia Dirks, Maddie Kate Gardiner and Lydia Poche, 1st place, 9:49.70 (meet and stadium record)

1,600 meters: Isabelle Brown, 2nd place, 5:17.29 (season best); Sophie Martin, 3rd place, 5:21.07

100-meter hurdles: Claire Holder, 1st place, 15.69 (personal record); Margaret Turner, 5th place, 17.86

100-meter dash: Hannah Jones, 1st place, 12.50; Sydney LaFleur, 2nd place, 12.79

800-meter run: Taylor Winters, 1st place, 2:20.31 (personal record); Lydia Poche, 3rd place, 2:28.60

4x100-meter relay: Claire Holder, Alexis Barbay, Sydney LaFleur and Hannah Jones, 1st place, 48.91

400-meter dash: Ava Moreau, 4th place, 1:02.76 (personal record); Julia Crawford, 5th place, 1:04.52

300-meter hurdles: McKenna Ramsey, 1st place, 46.01 (personal record); Sophie Kronenberger, 2nd place, 47.00 (season best)

200-meter dash: Hannah Jones, 1st place, 25.65 (personal record); Alexis Barbay, 3rd place, 26.50.

3,200-meter run: Sophie Martin, 1st place, 11:28.51; Lauren Hendry, 2nd place, 11:29.56

4x400-meter relay: Alessandra Purnell, Ava Moreau, Olivia Cook (personal record split) and Taylor Winters (personal record split), 1st place, 4:01.25 (season best)

Long jump: Ava Riche, 2nd place, 16-05.75; Claire Holder, 4th place, 16-04.00 

Triple jump: Lucy Oatley, 1st place, 35-03.00 (personal record); Ava Riche, 3rd place, 35-00.50

High jump: Reese Favaloro, 2nd place, 4-11.00

Pole vault: Georgia Ieyoub, 3rd place, 7-09.00 (personal record); Camille Schexnayder, 4th place, 7-03.00 (personal record)

Shot put: Kayleigh Mims, 3rd place, 36-01.00

Discus: Peyton Smith, 3rd place, 97-09.00; Kayleigh Mims, 4th place, 94-00.00

Javelin: Rebecca Bordelon, 3rd place, 84-03.00; Abigail Bordelon, 6th place, 75-09.00

After the meet, the 16 seniors on the track and field team were honored. They are Alexis Barbay, Catherine Couvillion, Olivia Devall, Lauren Hendry, Emily Kukura, Leanne Livingston, Angelle Martin, Katherine McCullen, Kayleigh Mims, Morgen Nunnery, Madi Ogra, Ploy Sanguanruang, Peyton Smith, Maddie Toler, Margaret Turner and Taylor Winters.

“All the senior groups we’ve had have been special,” said head coach Charlie Daigle. “This group is the most special so far as what they have accomplished. More importantly, their leadership, loyalty to their teammates, character and building a culture of excellence are unsurpassed.”

Next up is the District 5-5A track and field meet on April 17 at CHS.
